Funeral services for Harry G. Zerby, 96, of Woodstock, formerly of DeKalb, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn.

Born Feb. 26, 1903, in Center [sic, recte Centre] County, Pa., to George A. and Kathryn (nee Luce) Zerby, he passed away peacefully, Friday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Centegra Memorial Hospital in Woodstock. Burial will be in Kaneville Cemetery.

When he was a young boy, Harry's family moved to Mississippi and then to Michigan for a time, before settling in Illinois.

His mother passed away when he was 14 and he began working early in life on Maple Park area farms. On May 5, 1935, he was united in marriage to Doris M. Bower in Maple Park and they made their home in the DeKalb/Genoa area for many years until 1993 when they moved to Woodstock to be near their daughter. From 1926 to 1968, Harry was employed by Northern Illinois Gas.

Beginning as a fireman, keeping the company's huge gas-producing furnaces running day and night, he later worked as a maintenance man at the pumping stations as well.

Surviving are his daughter, Barbara (Gordon) Roesslein of Woodstock; grandsons, Steven Roesslein of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Jeffrey (Tina) Roesslein of Lake in the Hills; nieces, Marion (Ralph) Grivetti of McNabb, Ill., and Betty L. Jones of Freeport; and nephew, Robert (Martha) Zerby of Kaneville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Zerby, in 1996; and brothers, Roy, Milton and John Zerby, along with two brothers in infancy.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
