Eugene 'Tater' Dixon
Eugene 'Tater' Dixon left this earth to be with the angels on Monday, February 14, 2005. He was called home at 6:20 a.m. from the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
Eugene was born on Oct. 2 1928 in the Posey Community, the proud son of Alf Dixon and Henry Bea Palmer. He married the love of his life, Violet Adell Free, on November 15, 1950. He left a lasting impression on a vast amount of people throughout his life. He served as a postal employee in Mesquite,. TX. A manager at Babcock Brother's , and an employee of Jess Orr's Store. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and served four years on the North Hopkins School Board. He was a member of the Posey Baptist Church and a graduate of North Hopkins School.
Eugene was a terrific father, a wonderful husband, and a great friend to many. His passions included singing and playing his guitar. He was also an avid fisherman and played a mean hand at dominos and forty-two. He will be remembered by many for his great sense of humor and his quick wit with everyone.
Eugene will be cremated through the West Oaks Funeral Home. No formal visitation will be held. A memorial service in his honor will take place at the Posey Baptist Church in the Posey Community on Wednesday the 16th at 2:00 p.m.
Eugene is survived by his wife Adell Dixon of Posey, his daughters: Deborah Dixon of Tira, Susan Patterson and husband Jim of Posey, Sara Thompson and husband James of Texarkana, his son Darreyl Dixon and wife Carla of Sulphur Springs. Eight grandchildren: Glenn and Ronny Ferrell, Kristy Alvarez and Jeremy Dixon, Evan and Colby Thompson, Leslie Donaldson and Drew Patterson. Two great grandchildren: Christian Alvarez and Tony Donaldson. Two nieces and a nephew: Donna Carey and husband Dennis, Phyllis McPhearson, David Free. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eva Nell Stubbs.
