EMERY STUART OLIVER
Daniels Chapel of the Valley
Emery Stuart Oliver
(March 27, 1912 - September 27, 2005)
Emery Stuart Oliver, age 93, known as the "Meanest Man in Summerville, died Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at his home in Summerville. Viewing will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, September 30, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerville Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Oregon Medical School Cystic Fibrosis Research or the OES Heart Fund in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Mr. Oliver was born on March 27, 1912 near Dry Creek School in Summerville, the son of Burt M. and Bessie (Sanderson) Oliver. He served with the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed on the USS Selfridge which was a ship that led the services into battle. He served in 8 major battles and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. On March 23, 1947 he married Thelma G. Kennedy in Summerville. He farmed in the Summerville area and was secretary of the Summerville Cemetery for 50 years. He was a member of the American Legion, a member and Past Master of the Elgin Masonic Lodge, the KCCH Scottish Rite and the, Al Kader Shrine. He was a member and Past Patron the Blue Mtn. Chapter Order of Eastern Star, the Odd Fellows, the Eagles, and the VFW. He served as Father Advisor for the Rainbow Girls, served on the school board and the school board budget committee for many years. He was very active in all the organizations he belonged to. Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Summerville; children and spouses, Ann and Lee Flower of La Grande, Carol Oliver and Charles Meyer of Elgin and Marilyn and Jim Morasch of Hermiston; grandchildren, Tami Lynn Clark, Zenas Flower, Sara Morasch and Joni Morasch; great grandchildren, Martin, Tianna, Cierra and Hunter Clark and Alysann, Bryan, Madelyn and Jayk Flower; sister, Madeline Shore of Hillsboro; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Lawrence and Howard and sister, Lema and two granddaughters. He will be missed by many.
