Barbara Jahnke Muery, 71, of Brenham, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2. 2003. Barbara was born March 12, 1932 in Brenham.
On Jan. 13, 1951 she was married to Harper E. Muery in San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Barbara was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. Until the time of her illness, she was active in Altar Guild, Circle 1, the Mound Hill, Cedar Hill and Gay Hill Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliaries, as well as the Top Cats Dance Club. Barbara loved being a homemaker and spending time with family. She also enjoyed dancing, shopping and talking on the phone to family and friends. Barbara fought a brave battle against cancer over the past two years.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harper E. Muery of Gay Hill; daughter, Donna Muery of Canyon Lake; son, Bryan Muery and daughter-in-law Vickie of Katy; two grandchildren, Chase Russell Muery and Briana Paige Muery of Katy. She also leaves two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ernestine and Fred Kieke of Brenham and Louise Akin of Giddings; her nieces and nephews: Sandra and Edgar Schwartz, Sharon and Donald Winkelmann, all of Brenham, Grady and Kathy Stueber of Giddings, James Stueber of Giddings and Michael Stueber of Austin; 16 great-nieces and nephews, 20 great-great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Mabel Haddox, Cindy Weems, Linda Garrett, Helen Emshoff, Gertrude Schuerer and many more who know who they are.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Brenham Memorial Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.

Funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gay Hill at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5 with Pastor Virgil Pecht officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Following burial everyone is invited to the church annex for coffee and lunch, and to visit with the family.

Serving as pallbearers are Chase Muery, Charles Esterak, Johnnie Esterak, Robert Smith, Marvin Fischer and Bennie Emshoff.


Honorary pallbearers are Clarence Martin, Bert Jaeger, Al Grahmann, Fred Weiss, Carl Weems and Brian Smith.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Usha Venkatraj of Hope Cancer Center and her staff for their care and compassion in treating our mother during her illness. A special thanks to the Hospice Brenham staff who allowed our mother to "call the shots" during her remaining days.

Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Scholarship fund or Hospice Brenham.
