Nina Hendrick Black, 90, of 1050 Petersburg Road, Elberton, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 11, 2011, at Spring Valley Health Care Center. Prior to the her death, she had been a resident of Hart Care Center.

Mrs. Black was born in Madison County, February 23, 1921, daughter of the late J.B. and Etta Coile Hendrick. She was a seamstress and a member of Elberton Christian Church. She was twice married, first to the late Albert Simms and second to the late James Black.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Iris Jones of Charlotte, NC, Sara Pless of Elberton, and Jarrell Jones of Madison County; two sisters, Polly Parham of Comer and Edna Tawney of Elberton; one brother, Carl Hendrick of New Ellington, SC; grandchildren Lisa Almond, Lynn Dove, Michael Pless, Keith Jones, Kevin Jones, and Jennifer Savino, seven great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11AM Friday, October 14, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot of the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Madison County. The family is at the home of her granddaughter, Lisa Almond, 1827 Shallow Creek Road Lot 13, Elberton, and her sister, Edna Tawney, 1425 Athens Highway, Elberton, and will receive friends from 6-8PM Thursday night, at Berry Funeral Home.

Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made in her honor to the NuWay Christian Recovery Home, P.O. Box 6369, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
