Son of Walter Peleg James and Mettie Ivie Taylor.
Husband of Bonnie Dolores Patterson, married 16 FEB 1930 in Stratford, Sherman Co., TX.

Walter Peleg James, Jr. was the second son born to Walter Peleg and Mettie Ivie Taylor James while they were still at Altus, Jackson Co., OK. He was nicknamed "Peachy" by Rube Johnson and the nickname stuck. Though he only had formal education to eighth grade he could figure in his head faster then most people could enter it into the calculator. Maybe that was due to the early training his mother gave him. When the little boys were put to bed Mettie would get out the dominos and the big boys would play a game or two of dominos with their mother who was quick and aggressive at the game. He was also expert at estimating weights of cattle on the hoof and determining the total value of a large herd - a handy skill if you want to make profitable cattle trades.
Peachy was very athletic, whether it was swimming or riding a horse or anything in between. He was also a good cook, probably a result of living for weeks at the different camps.
Peachy was a sharp dresser. Most mornings he put on a clean white shirt, heavily starched pants and boots-hand made in good times and a good hat. However, no matter how spiffy he started out by evening his shirt tail would be out and his trousers about half-mast. One time in Kansas City, having shipped cattle there, he was in need of cash. He walked into a bank and wanted to write a check. Apparently he didn't have enough identification so they called the bank at Boise City to verify this. The Boise City banker asked, "Is he wearing a white shirt with the tail out and does he have very blue eyes and a nose that looks like it's been broken?" When the answer was yes, the Boise City banker said, "That's him. Let him have whatever he wants."
On 16 Feb 1930 Peachy married Bonnie Dolores Patterson whose parents had homesteaded east of the James home place on the North Ranch. They had seven children: Bonnie Ivie, Walter Peleg, III, Etta Joan, Joe Albert, Francis Norvell, Thomas Taylor and Jessie William.
Peachy was a farmer/rancher. In 1940 they bought a place 15 miles east of Felt, OK. In 1949, they bought some property in Boise City and remodeled it into 10 apartments. They were all spoken for before they got them finished. In 1951 they moved from the farm to town to manage the apartments. That is where they were living when Peachy passed away.
