A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, in Riverview Cemetery for Thurston Skei, who died Jan. 5 in Olympia of Alzheimer's disease at age 80.

Mr. Skei was born May 2, 1917, in Cottage Grove. A 1934 graduate of Benson High School, he received a bachelor's degree from the California Institute of Technology and master's and doctoral degrees in chemistry from the University of California at Los Angeles. He was a research chemist for Shell Oil Co. from 1944 to 1972, when he retired. He worked in Oakland, Calif.; Wood River, Ill.; and San Francisco before moving to Florence after retirement. In 1938, he married Miriam Fouch; she died in 1988.

Survivors include his daughters, Laurie Tremblay of Olympia, Barbara Miller of Oakland and Christine Rossi of Portland; sister, Elizabeth Sheedy of Portland; brothers, William of Beaverton and Edward of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
