Herman Henry Hanneken
Birth: Jun. 23, 1893
Death: Aug. 23, 1986

Haitian Campaign Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. On the night of October 31, 1919, he served as a 2nd Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps in command of detachment that was in a conflict with the enemy near Grande Riviere, Republic of Haiti. Under his leadership, he led his men into the rebel camp of Charlemagne Péralte the supreme bandit chief resulting in the killing and capture of 1200 outlaws to include the death of Charlemagne Péralte. The success of this mission proved to be of untold value to the Republic of Haiti. For extraordinary heroism and conspicuous gallantry, he was awarded the Medal of Honor in June 1920. He also served in World War I, World War II and retired a Brigadier General in July 1948. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
