In May 2006, a box of photos and papers was purchased at an estate sale of Robert Melberg, Everett's stepson. In the materials, were family papers that included information about Captain Everett Anglin.
Specifically, in the papers was found a partially completed employment application filled out by Captain Anglin. The application was for a position with the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railroad. The following was gleaned from this partially completed application:
• 1905: he was a Texas State Ranger (rank Sergeant) in Laredo, TX
• 1905-06: he was a special agent for the US Treasury and worked in Brownsville, TX
• 1906-1912: he was a customs collector in Brownsville, TX
• 1913-1916: he was a city marshal for the City of McAllen (TX)
• 1916-1918: he was a special investigator in the US Army (Captain) in McAllen and later a Calvary captain in the Texas National Guard
• 1919-1921: he was again a city marshal in McAllen, TX
• 1921: he was a Special Investigator for the International-Great Northern Railroad Company and was located in San Antonio, TX.
• 1922 he was a city detective for the city of San Antonio, TX.
The information on the application stopped here. The papers did not reflect if he ever got the job he was seeking with the railroad.
He did end up in Alpine, Texas, where he lived until he died on 08 Apr 1956.
In the application, Captain Anglin, "lists his birthdate as February 3 1885 in Gonzales County Texas. His father was A.L. Anglin and his mother was M.G. Anglin. Everette lists his wife's name as Eva Anglin. It is not known what happened to his first wife Eva, but when Everett died, he was married to Mary Emily Mount Melberg, who had a son Robert L Melberg. Robert Melberg was an attorney who lived with Everett and Mary at the time of the 1940 Census.
The above information is available because of the kindness and generosity of the purchaser of the Estate Sale documents.
* Note: There is a difference in one year in the date of birth provided on this "incomplete application" and that provided on his Death Certificate.
