Celenda Henry (Powell) was born May 3, 1820 to Hulda Minerva Murray and William Henry. She married David Powell on July 3, 1843 in Flint, Michigan. They had eight children: Mary E. Powell, Emily Amanda Powell, Melissa Jane Powell, Charles Powell, Thomas Frances Powell, Franklin Powell, William B. Powell and George Chandler Powell.
Celenda died at the age of 75. Her obituary said that she had been suffering from heart disease and rheumatism and, according to her physician, was mentally unbalanced.
A verdict of suicide by drowning was rendered. She had drowned herself in the Flint River in back of the house where she lived in Flushing, Michigan.
