Herman Masenthin died Wednesday May 14 at Lincoln General Hospital at the age of 70.

Funeral services were held May 18 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with committal service at St. John Cemetery in Kramer.

Masenthin was born September 2, 1909 near Vassar, Kansas, one of 11 children born to Fred and Anna (Droeger) Masenthin. He was baptized October 3, 1909 in Zion Lutheran Church in Vassar and was confirmed in this same church August 19, 1923. Masenthin attended a local public school through the eighth grade.

He married Martha Meinke on December 6, 1938 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and the couple had one son. Masenthin lived at Vassar for 19 years. He moved to Kramer in 1928 and to Dorchester in 1947. He was elected to the school board of District 17 for several terms. His health failed during the past six years, and he was hospitalized during the last month.

Masenthin was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Masenthin; two brothers, Walter and Fred; and by a sister, Emelia. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Martha Masenthin and their son, Herman, both of Dorchester; four brothers, Albert of Ottawa, Kansas, Herbert of Overbrook, Kansas, Martin and Carl, both of Scranton, Kansas; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Dittmer of Crete, Olga of Scranton, Kansas, and Hulda of Vassar, Kansas, and one sister-in-law, Lydia of Lyndon, Kansas.
