Samuel White was the son of Alexander White and Mary McMurtrie of Sussex Co, NJ. He Married Jane Stewart in 1780. He was a Revolutionary soldier.
Samuel enlisted in the Colonial Army a few months after his eithteenth birthday. He had gone off to war shortly before his father, Alexander White, drew his last will and testament, Sep 7th, 1776. Samuel, a Wounded Vet Of Rev War, shot at the battle of Stoney Point,left for Dead, scalped By Indians.
After the Revolutionary War he lived in Sussex Co, NJ for five years, in Hardy Co, Virginia about eithteen years, and in 1805 he moved to Franklin Township, Franklin Co, OH.
Samuel and Jane took only two of their youngest chirldren with them to OH in 1804. He was approximately 47 years old after trekking from Western Virginia, to Indiana, back to Ohio. He and Jane had produced 11 children, 9 of them living, ranging from James Stewart White,and Samuel M. White. Except for James Stewart White and Samuel White, all the children were born in hardy Co, VA. One last son, George W. White, was born in Franklin Twp, Franklin, OH.
Samuel White and Jane Stewart lived on the "Big Run" near the Scioto and Olentangy river from 1805 until they died. They are buried on the land given by their son, Samuel M. White, for the church and graveyard called Old Union, located on Frank Road a mile east of Briggsdale. This pioneer cemetery still remains and is called Union Methodist Cemetery today. The two churches built successfully at this location have long since disappeard.
