Helgesen was killed at a.m. Thursday when the truck he was driving overturned on a ramp leading from Interstate 65 to Interstate 80 in Lake County near Gary.

Born in Chicago Feb. 27, 1934, he was the son of Carl and Mary Rickey Helgesen. His 1st married was brief, to Judy M. Benson on 4-17-1961 in Duluth, Minnesota. They divorsed.
His 2nd marriage June 4, 1966, Monticello, was to Joyce Massey-Oberlander, who survives. Survivors besides the widow include his parents of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two step-children, Angela and Fred Louis Oberlander: one sister, Mrs. Jo and anette Rindahl of Monticello.

He belonged to The Moose Lodge in Minnesota. He lived in Two Harbors, Minn., most of his life, coming to Monticello several times since 1960 and living here since 1966. Helgesen traveled with construction work in several states, and served with the U. S. Marines during two different tours of duty.
