John Cornell "JC" Gary was the son of Rev. John Willie Gary and Sallie Ida Downing. He was born in Texas on May 26, 1924. He was known to also use the middle names Cameron and Charles.
JC had been a resident of Greenville since 1942, and drove a taxi for more than 40 years. He was a member of Family Worship Center Church of God in Greenville.
JC had nine siblings: Jodie Ray Gary, Dollie Marie Gary (Tatum), Tabatha Pauline Gary (Cole), Maudie Dean "Maudine" Gary, Willie Bell Gary (Burcham), Melvin Cleo Gary, Thelma Gary (Wolfe), William Thomas "Bill" Gary, and Claudius "Claudy" Gary.
Though the exact date is unknown, JC married James Edna Henry (aka Edna Mae Henry) about 1943 in Mississippi. Together, they had three daughters: Elizabeth Dianne Gary (Shaw), who preceded him in death, Carolyn Genette "Carol" Gary (Harvey), and Barbara Jean Gary (Nance). Their marriage ended when the girls were very young, in about 1947.
JC had a son out of wedlock shortly thereafter: Michael N. "Mike" Jacobs (whose mother's name is not currently known by this author).
In about 1950, JC married Dorothy Mae "Dot" Davis in Mississippi. Their union did not produce any children, but together they raised Dot's three daughters from her previous marriage to Lee O'Neal Breland: Shirley Mae Breland (McDaniel) and Barbara Jean Breland (Heist), both of whom preceded him in death, and Peggy O. Breland (Schlottman).
JC died January 9, 2012 at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was buried January 12, 2012 at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Inverness. He was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, grandfather, and friend. He is gone but he will never be forgotten.
