Frontiersman. He helped to settle Nashville in 1780. He and his brother, James, both signed the Cumberland Compact-the first constitution of the new settlement. He received a land grant for his service during the war that was located along the Harpeth River in Williamson County, where he brought his family from Virginia and settled in 1799. He and his son, Samuel, set up an iron forge at Samuel's home and began making firearms known as the Crockett Rifle. Andrew Jackson reportedly supplied his troops with these rifles for the Battle of Orleans as well as in the Indian Wars.
