On the census of 1861 we find Miss Jane Roche age 24 living in Wolford Township with her father John Roche and her mother Ann along with siblings John, a Cooper , Barnard a Labourer, Catherine, Peter, Francis, Joseph, Teressa, James and Eliza Ann. Parents John and Ann are listed as born in Ireland while all the children are listed as being born in Upper Canada.
Nearby Hugh McGibbon is living with his widowed mother Margaret.
In November of 1861, Jane marries Hugh McGibbon at the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Kemptville, Ontario. Jane's parents are listed as Ann Henry and John Roche. Hugh's parents are listed as James McGibbon and Margaret Stewart.
Hugh and Jane have a son that they name James McGibbon. He is christened at the same church the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Kemptville on the 10th of July 1862. Sadly Jane did not live to enjoy being the mother to her son as we see her grave her says she died on July 11th, 1862.
A note about the spelling of Jane's last name: Jane's last name is spelled Roach on the 1861 census and on her headstone. Jane's father's grave has the spelling Roche. Her marriage registry also uses the spelling Roche.
