Caleb Goin was born near Taswell in Clairborn County, Tennessee June 7, 1836 and died at his home in Fortesque, MO Sept 26, 1912. He was married to Miss Sarah Hopper, April 24, 1862. To this marriage ten children were given, George Goin of Fortesque, Meek Goin of Calhan CO., Maynard Goiin of Ness City, KS, and Charles Goin of Texas, Mrs. Roy Cornet of Bird City, KS, Mrs. Walter Snook of Pueblo, CO, and Mrs. Laura Fields of Napier-with the bereaved wife areleft to mourn his death.
Mr. Goin entered as a private on Aug 4, 1863, the 9th regiment of Tennessee calvary. On June 19, 1864 he was appointed a lieutenant in Battery C 1st Tennessee artillery. He served the entire remainder of the war, and received an honorable discharge. He became a resident of Holt County in 1884, coming here from Mercer County, MO and farmed until 1890 when infirmities of old age bade him cease.
He united with the Walnut Grove Church of Christ on April 16,1893 and ever since has lived an upright life. His appreciation was to be seen in the great number of people who attended his funeral.
Minister Clark W. Comstock of Mound City conducted the funeral from the home in Fortesque last Sunday morning at 11 A.M. after which the body was laid to rest in the Boyd Cemetery near Napier.
A host of friends sympathized with the family in their sorrow.
