In memory of Joseph Squyres, 5th of 12 childred of William and Anne Squyres born CA. 1800 Edgefield, S. Carolina, and his wife Sarah Carroll whom he married CA. 1821. Joseph was a resident of Catahoula, Louisiana 1815-1831 when they came to Angelina County. He was killed by Indians April 12, 1840 and buried at the site of death.
Children: Eliza, William, John,Allen, Wilson, Louisa Ann, Amanda, James Lewis, Sam Houston, and Alfred Salem.
