She was the daughter of Frederick and Susannah Bechdel Schenck of Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Her parents relocated into the mountains of Centre County in 1790's with her grandfather Reverend Michael Schenck leading their mission. The Christian Beachdel family ,several members being intermarried, migrated with them. This area was wholly abandoned in 1780 at the beginning of the "Indian Troubles" thus it was the Wild West. Shortly after their migration in 1790 acres were cleared, mills were built, stills were created and a town or two had begun. Anna and Samuel raised three sons William, John and David . They also took in Rachel Baker Haines to help care for their boys after her parents Jacob and Mary has died. Rachel's daughter Emmaline would later marry Joseph Bechdel thus starting a whole family branch of their own.
