OBIT: William H. Kirby, the well-known florist, died Saturday at the home of his son-in-law, George W. States, near Crumpton, after a long illness. Mrs. Kirby died last June and since then the deceased made his home with his sister Mrs. Gardiner, where he was well cared for. Later he went to live with his daughter, who gave him every attention. The deceased had a big business as florist, on the corner of High and Water streets. The deceased was 75 years of age, and leaves two daughters, Mrs. G. W. States and Mrs. Wm. T. H. Whiteley. Funeral was held on Monday with services conducted by Rev. J. L. Ward of Chestertown and the Rev. Mr. Starling, of Crumpton; interment in Chester Cem. The pall-bearers were Geo. W. States, Herbert Brinfield, Albert Godwin, Harry Pheffer, Harry White and James W. Kirby. Undertaker C. L. Dodd. Kent News May 19, 1917 p. 8
