Death of William Salt Harrison of Holmfield.
After being in waning health for some months William Salt Harrison passed to his rest in his 69th year at his house early on Saturday morning. He was born at Macclesfield, Chesterfield, England coming to Canada with his parents and residing at Mitchell, Ontario. For several years he followed his trade as a machinist at Mitchell and Stratford.
In 1881 he came west, located at Wakopa where he homesteaded and in partnership with his brother Matthew and Mr. Williams, built a sawmill and flour mill. Under the firm name of William's and Harrison Bros. In 1888 he moved to Killarney and built the first elevator in that town, together with his brother George and known as Harrison Bros.
In 1897 he moved to Holmfield where he and his brother George built a flour mill and the first elevator in Holmfield, continuing to operate same until his death.
The funeral service was held at St. George's Church on Monday, conducted by Rev. C. D. Gemmill, clergyman in charge.
William Harrison was a charter member of the Killarney I.O.O.F. Members of Killarney and Cartwright Lodges were in attendance during the service acting as pallbearers and at the graveside observing the beautiful nd fitting ritual of the lodge.
Besides the relatives and many friends gathered to pay a final tribute to one so widely known and highly esteemed by everyone.
He is survived by his beloved wife, maria, two sons A.W. and G. L. of Holmfield and four daughters, Mrs. D. Allan of Scotford, Alberta, Mrs. M. Nelson, Dry River, Manitoba, Mrs. N. Tivy of Rivers, Manitoba and Ruth at home. Two brothers and a sister also mourn his lose, Matthew of Minneapolis, George of Holmfield and Mrs. P.S. Bryan of Killarney.
The remains were laid to rest in Holmfield Cemetery.
