Son of Wilhelm and Susanna Diesburg. Brother of Nicholas. Born in Alsdorf Prussia ( Germany ) died at the Soldiers home in Grand Rapids. Married Christine Failly Daughter of Mathias Failly Father of 16 Children. Fought in the Prussian Army and in the 150th NY Regiment also known as the Dutchess County Regiment wounded at the Battle of Baltimore and discharged.

"The remains of Matthew Bier, aged 83 years, were buried yesterday at Quincy. Mr. Bier died Tuesday at the Soldier's Home in Grand Rapids, where he had been an inmate for some time. Mr. Bier served in a New York regiment. While he was at the home, he visited in this city many times and was quite well known. He leaves ten children among whom are, Mrs. Emma June and Mrs. Ruel Wilcox of this city, Walter Bier, Mrs. Irvin Chase, and Mrs. Mary Hoy of Quincy.
