Rebecca was the daughter of John Payne and Suzanna Rowell Payne.
Rebecca's marriage to George endured much suffering. They had nine children. Five of these children died in infancy. One died at age two. Yet another, a son, died before reaching age six. George tried and failed to commit suicide after his peach crop failed. He struggled with severe depression.
However, one son, Robert, lived to become 68 years old, and one daughter, Ethel, lived 64 years. Both of these children grew to have families of their own.
Rebecca lived to be 79 years old. She died on Friday, April 10, 1931, at 2:30 in the morning. Funeral services were held at the Church of God in Otsego, Michigan. The Reverend Joseph Ceroni officiated. Those who were in attendance were, her husband, George, daughter Ethel Lemoin, her son, Robert A. Brown, neices, Sarah Payne, Erma Long, and Bessie Grosvenor. She was buried on Sunday afternoon, April 12th, at 3:15. Two years later her husband George, would be laid to rest next to her.
