Apr. 24, 1938 Reed City Osceola County Michigan, USA
Death record says she was born 1880, grave marker shows 1881.
Effie was buried with her first husband Samuel B. Wise. Her children Orrin Rood (Ludern Ketchum) and Ralph D.Wise are buried there also. Her grave marker only states, "MOTHER" 1881-1938. It was positively identified as Effie's grave by her youngest daughter.
After the death of Samuel Effie married Ludern Ketchum in Hersey, Michigan. Ludern is father of five of her children. However her children Helen, Floyd & Ethel were placed in the D.A. Blodgett Orphanage in Grand Rapids, after the divorce. Later their paternal grandparents took them out & brought them to Ashton where they lived until Ludern sent train tickets for them. (Floyd, Helen & Ethel) to travel to Utah, where he settled. She did have other children with Ludern after they divorced. August Russell Ketchum was born in 1912. It isn't clearly understood why Orrin is buried as Orrin Rood except that the family speculates that Orrin, Ethel & August were all born after their divorce.
Information to be added later on Effie's third marriage. She had a daughter with that husband. They traveled & were members of the communist part. (Information provided by daughter during a visit with her.) They divorced.
When Effie died, she was living in Reed City & the local news paper wrote an article on her passing and that as well as her death record, show her to be Mrs. Effie Ketchum.

You were not the typical woman of the early 1900s Effie. A single/widowed/divorced woman who spoke out on a political view that isn't embraced even today. You supported yourself & made your way through life. Rest peacefully. -
