|Death: ||Feb. 9, 1945|
PFC John H. Boyle served in the 39th Regiment, 9th Infantry Division during World War II and was killed in action at Dreiborn, Germany, just outside Schleiden.
My grandfather, Manley Fuller, was a good friend of his. They were sharing a foxhole when Boyle was killed in February of 1945. Somebody had shot a deer and the word was passed for anyone who could help butcher it. Boyle had been a meatcutter in civilian life and got out, promising to bring back a share of the meat. He only made it a few feet before being hit. My grandfather and other men ran to him immediately, assuring him he'd be okay, but Boyle died quickly. Grandpa says the worst part of it was that the Christmas mail had just arrived (late) and Boyle had just received a package from home containing cards from his two small children.
Boyle's remains were brought back to the United States in 1948.
