NORTH OGDEN -- Jean Hayes Johnson returned to her heavenly home on Saturday, August 24, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 5, 1924 in Georgetown, Idaho, to Frank Evan and Hannah Christina Smart Hayes.

On June 14, 1942, Jean married Duane H. Johnson in Georgetown, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary. Jean and Duane were blessed with five children: Judy Marie Glenn, Pleasant View; Steven D.(Ann) Johnson, Syracuse; Darel "DJ" Johnson, North Ogden; Kaye Freeland, Layton; and Bonnie Jean.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jean participated in the choir, having a great love for music. Throughout her life she served in various church callings - most recently as a Relief Society Visiting Teaching Coordinator, which she loved.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, their visits, and especially cooking and making her special bread.

Jean is survived by her husband, four children, six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Gladys (Jack) Nevins, Boise, Idaho; and Leah Ann (Gene) Bills, Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Preceding her in death were her daughter, Bonnie Jean; her parents; and one sister, Madge Sorenson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist"s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., with Bishop Scott Sessions officiating.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment, Georgetown, Idaho Cemetery where graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m.
