Born 20 Feb 1837 in Village of Mußbach, Canton of Neustadt, County of Frankenthal, Kingdom of Bavaria (now part of Neustadt, Rhineland-Palatinate).
Departed Europe for America on 12 Mar 1847 from Le Havre, Seine-Maritime, Haute-Normandie, France.
Arrived 21 May 1847 at U.S. Port of New Orleans aboard ship, "Michigan."
Graesser Family Bible: "The family moved in March 1847 to America on Looking Glass Prairie, southerly of New Baden, Illinois."
Note that Eva, and siblings Peter, Henry, and Elizabeth were born in Mußbach. Maggie was born on board ship "Michigan" on the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, 4 days before arrival in U.S. port of New Orleans. Her brother William was born in Mascoutah.
Following death of husband, Jacob, "in 1866, the widow [Anna Maria Bauer, nee Graesser] moved with her children to Mascoutah."
Eva was the first wife of Alexander Mertz.
According to the Bauer family Bible, on 14 Dec 1865, "Eva died in childbirth. and the child died also. There had been 2 girls, 18 months and 3 years 9 months. Her lifetime was 28 years, 9 months, and 25 days. God gave her everlasting peace."
The 2 daughters referred to included Isabella Mertz (b. 18 Mar 1862, d. 05 Apr 1924) and Christina ("Christine") Mertz (b. circa June 1864).
