United States Air Force Captain. He was co-pilot aboard an F-4D Phantom jet escorting an AC-130 on a night mission over Quang Nam Province near the Vietnam-Laos border that crashed into the side of a mountain. Several attempts were made to search the site but went unsuccessful days after the crash. The crash site was located in 1989 where bone fragments, teeth and clothing were recovered and identified those of Capt Burnham and pilot Major Thomas H Amos. Unexploded ordnance at the site halted further excavations. Unidentifiable remains were interred in Arlington National Cemetery and those identified along with medals he earned were interred at Restlawn Memorial.
