Donald Dean "Don" Grimm, 84, Normal, passed away at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 2, 2012) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. The Rev. Tim Cavallo will officiate. Entombment will be at East Lawn Mausoleum, Bloomington, with military rites accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, both at the memorial home.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Community Cancer Center, Normal, or the Parkinson's Support Group.
Don was born July 15, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Harold R. and Mayme W. Weber Grimm.
He married Zelma Marcum on Nov. 20, 1954, in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving are five children, Donalda (David) Voss, Bloomington; Ronald Grimm, Coolidge, Ariz.; David Grimm, Mackinaw; and Judi (David) Ambrose and Cynthia (David) Clements, both of Normal; 10 grandchildren, Deann (Nathan Karplus) Ambrose, Savoy; Sarah Clements, Denver, Colo.; Audra (Daniel) Stolzoff, Bloomington; Donnie Ambrose and Amy Clements, both of Normal; Amanda Grimm, Quincy; Becky (Jeremiah) Dailey and Sheila Grimm, both of Mackinaw; and Jennifer Voss and Tony Voss, both of Bloomington; one great-grandson, Landon Stolzoff, Bloomington; one sister, Katie (Bus) Bengston, Independence, Iowa; and one brother, Junior (Peggy) Grimm, Waterloo, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Mary Grimm.
Don served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at the GM&O and Railroad, Bloomington, and he was a former Normal police officer for 20 years, retiring in 1983, and was an expert marksman with the police department.
He and his wife enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz., since 1984. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was "a jack of all trades."
He was a loving husband, dad and grandpa. He will be missed by all who knew him.
