Pfc. A. O. Bedoya Killed in Action On Okinawa Isle

Pfc. Atalfo O. Bedoya, 20, native Yuman, was killed in action while fighting with his infantry unit in the 27th division on Okinawa Island April 21st, according to a telegram received yesterday by his mother, Mrs. Frances Bedoya, of 10th street and First avenue, Yuma, from the war department. He had been in the army about two years and overseas, in the Pacific Theater of Operations, for 14 months. He was the youngest of Mrs. Bedoya's four sons in the service, all of whom have seen service in the Pacific war zone. Arthur is now overseas, Alfred, who left here four years ago with Co. L, 158th Infantry and has served 39 months overseas, is now at the redistribution station at Santa Barbara, Calif. Albert, who served 19 months overseas is now stationed at San Francisco. Other survivors are four brothers, Alfonso, Adolfo, Abel and Andy, and three sisters, Anita Chavez, Aurora Benzor and Amelia Bedoya, all of Yuma. Plan Services Saturday for Atalfo O. Bedoya

Repatriated remains of Atalfo O. Bedoya, Yuma soldier who was killed April 21, 1945, Okinawa, will arrive on the Southern Pacific train, at 8 p.m. Thursday. The body will be escorted to Johnson mortuary promptly on arrival by the Veterans of Foreign Wars ceremonial committee. Beside his mother, Mrs. Frances O. Bedoya, 10th street and First avenue, the soldier is survived by three sisters and seven brothers, all residing in Yuma. A wake will be conducted from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday, at Johnson chapel, with Rosary scheduled for 9 p.m. Relatives and friends will meet at the mortuary 9 a.m. Saturday, prior to proceeding to Immaculate Conception church for services at 9:30 a.m. where the funeral services will be conducted. Interment will follow in Yuma Catholic cemetery, with military rites to be conducted by the VFW. VFW members are requested to meet at the Foxhole at 7 p.m. Thursday, in order to be prepared to meet the train on arrival and escort the body to the mortuary; and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, to conduct the rites at the cemetery.
