Russell P. King was born to Edward M. and Nora King in Marshfield, MO on October 19, 1920. He went home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 8, 2015 at the age of 94. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was united in marriage to Geraldine (Gerry) Trantham on October 6, 1940 in Elkland, MO. The couple recently observed their 75th wedding anniversary.

Russell graduated from Elkland High School in 1939 and earned a B.S. Degree in Education from Southwest Missouri State as well as a Masters Degree in Education from Drury College. He worked for various school systems in southwest Missouri for 39 years. Russell taught in Webster County; served as elementary school principal at Fair Grove; served as elementary and junior high school principal at Strafford; taught math and shop at Eastwood Junior High School; served as coordinator of math and student services at Pipkin Jr. High School; and served as Assistant Principal at Pershing Jr. High School. He concluded his career in at Glendale High School where he served as Assistant Principal for 16 years. In addition to his service in area public school systems. Russell taught industrial arts classes at the Medical Center for Federal Prisoners where he saw the first graduating class in the center's evening program receive their diplomas. He was dedicated to the field of education and took his work as educator very seriously. He was dependable, hard-working and was always there to do his job. He retired from his career in education in 1979.

After retirement Russell enjoyed traveling throughout the states and Canada. He also enjoyed many fishing trips with friends and family. He was an avid sports fan always rooting for the Cardinals.

Russell was a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield. He served as an ordained deacon for 69 years and as a men's Sunday School teacher for 65 years at Boulevard Baptist Church and First Baptist Church. Russell is survived by his wife Geraldine (Gerry); daughter Sonya Sue Miller (Gary) of East Moline, IL; son Danny G. King (Joan) of Chesterfield, MO; grandson Brian Miller (Heather) of Frankfort, IL; granddaughter Julie Burkhart (Todd) of Davenport, IA; three great grandchildren Rylee, Madison, and Noah; sisters Marzelle McDonald of Marshfield, MO and Jo Helen Compton of Carney, OK; and a number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwar and Nora King; brothers Johnny and Donald King; and sisters Sarah Ann Cunningham and Polly Harden.
