A.J. was the son of Moses and Elizabeth Martha Click Mahan. He married Elizabeth Jane Stout on 25 Aug 1857 in Fannin County, Texas. During the Civil War he served in the Texas State Troopers, Col. W. B. Sims' Regiment, under Captain Jackson B. McCoole. A.J. and Betsy had at least 12 children. A.J. was a farmer most of his life, but he ran a grocery store in Victor, Eastland County, Texas, for several years.
