First Lieutenant Hodges was the pilot of a F-80C Shooting Star fighter interceptor with the 8th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 49th Fighter Bomber Group. On November 11, 1950, while on a combat mission, his aircraft crashed 15 miles from Taegu, South Korea. First Lieutenant Hodges was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.

lst Lt. Emory K. Hodges of Leaksville was killed Nov. 11 while piloting an F-80 jet fighter on a combat mission in Korea.
