Don Eugene Bowers was born in Nephi, Juab, Utah. He was the son of Abraham James Bowers Jr. and Beryl Bigler Bowers. He attended schools in Nephi and Payson, Utah. After high school, he served in both the U.S. Army and the National Guard. On June 18, 1938, he married Wanda Jean Ingram in Nephi. They were the parents of two children, Mike and Kathy. In 1940, the couple moved to Inglewood, California, where he resided for the rest of his life. In California, he worked for the Douglas Aircraft Company (later McDonald Douglas and now a part of Boeing) as a wing supervisor and labor leader. He retired from the company in October 1973.
He died suddenly at his home in Inglewood, at the age of 90, of an apparent pulmonary embolism while talking on the phone with his son. At the time of his death, he had five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two brothers and two sisters.
There is a memorial stone marker in the Bowers family plot in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah to honor of him and his wife, Wanda, who died two months later.
