Mrs. Gleason, Kin of J. Q. Adams Taken By Death
Mrs. Helen Frances Gleason, 86 years old, widow of the late John Gleason, passed away Monday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. A. Treptow, 203 First street. Her death followed a gradual decline covering a period of several years and was due primarily to the infirmities of old age.
Mrs. Gleason was up and around the house as usual on Monday and her condition gave no indication of the approaching end until shortly before she passed away late that night.
The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two-thirty at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Treptow with whom she has lived for the past twenty years.
Mrs. Gleason was on of the oldest residents of Lake County. She was born May 25, 1845 at Unity, Maine, and was the daughter of George W. and Mary Adams Myrick. Her mother was a direct descendent of president John Quincy Adams.
In 1863, at the age of eighteen, she came west with her family and took up her residence in Libertyville in the brick house now standing on the northwest corner of Milwaukee and Johnson avenues. In this same house she was united in marriage on January 23, 1867 to John Gleason who served in the early days of the civil war as a bugler because his age barred his enlistment as a combatant and later transferred to the 17th Illinois cavalry.
Mr. Gleason passed away on April 3, 1922* and since that time, Mrs. Gleason has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Treptow.
She was the last of a family of eight children and was, herself the mother of ten, two of whom passed away in youth. She is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Stella Braisted, Fort Worth, Texas; Leonard G. Gleason, Sioux City, Ia.; Lillian Gleason, Chicago; Mrs. Minnie Lichtfeld, Waukegan; Dr. B. F. Gleason, Randolph, Neb.; Mrs. Belle Henderson, McAllen Tex.; Mrs. Ruby Treptow, Libertyville and Mrs. Florence Reilly, Alhambra, Calif. She leaves also a number of grandchildren.
