Son of John Ernest Adams, Sr. and Bertha E. Morris Adams who resided in Laurel, Sussex County, Delaware.
He enlisted in the Army on August 3, 1940, prior to the war, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being Single, without dependents.
He served as a Private First Class in the 803rd Engineer Battalion, Aviation, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He was taken prisoner in the capture of the Philippines in December of 1941.
John was declared "Missing In Action" when the Japanese prisoner of war ship he was on was sunk while it was transporting prisoners from Bataan to Japan.
His remains were not recovered and he was awarded a Purple Heart.
