Resident Of Roscoe Dies At Age Of 71
James A. McMakin Was Well Known Illinois Farmer For Many Years
Roscoe, - (Special) - James A. McMakin, 71, a resident of Roscoe and vicinity practically all of his life, and for the last several years proprietor of a grocery store and restaurant in Rosoce, died yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Heart disease was the cause of death.
Mr. McMakin was born at Spartanburg, S.C., Jan. 28, 1858. He came to Illinois at an early age, and for many years he was a well known farmer in the township of Owen, Roscoe and Shirland. He was married to Miss Cora A. Richardson on Jan 30., 1994. Mr. McMakin moved to Roscoe 10 years ago. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and the M.W.A.
Surviving relatives are the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Henry Katterhenry, Beloit, and Mrs. Oscar Miller, Shirland, three sons, Frank and Jay, both of Shirland, and Carl, Rockton, also, a sister, Mrs. W.J. Richards, Arapahoe, Neb., and a brother, P.C. McMakin, Los Angeles. Eight grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock from the home and 2:30 from the M.E. church Friday afternoon. The Rev. Guy Hoover will officiate. Burial will be in Rosoce cemetery. Masons will have charge of the funeral at the grave.
