FOURTH CHILD, Samira's, headstone has her birth as 1844; however, the 1850 Census lists her birth as being ca 1846 in Mississippi, two years years younger than Peter, born in Alabama.
According to the census cited above, Martha and Ammon were in Indiana by ca 1834, the birth of their first and were still there at the birth of their second daughter. They were in Alabama at the birth of their third child born ca 1843. By ca 1846, birth of their fourth child, Martha and Ammon were in Mississippi.
After Ammon H Lindley's death, the Union confiscated all/most of what little Martha had from the widow's portion of the "estate" and left her destitute.
1888 – A claim for recovery of loss was filed by Ammon Francisco Lindley on behalf of his mother
1906 – (by which time Martha had passed away) An inquiry by the Committee on War of the US House of Representatives determined that the claim was legitimate.
1908 – Then claim was brought to a hearing before the US Court of Claims. It found that 1) the claim had merit and 2) the widow, Martha W. Lindley, had never been paid what was determined to be a reasonable worth: $320 - The findings of the Court of Claims is headed, "Ammon F. Lindley, administrator. Letter from the Assistant Clerk of the Court of Claims transmitting a copy of the findings filed by the court in the case of Ammon F. Lindley, administrator of Martha W. Lindley, deceased, against the United States." The entire passage (3 pages) is stored at the National Archives.
