Anthony "Tony" Bernard Drong was born June 8, 1931, in Browerville, Minnesota. He was the son of Ben and Mary (Kilanowski) Drong. Anthony was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at St Joseph Catholic Church in Browerville, MN. At a young age, while attending elementary school, he went to work for area farmers. Tony enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and served his country in the SeeBee Battalion.
On November 18, 1952, Tony was united in marriage to Mildred Meyer at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cullman, Alabama. This marriage was blessed with two children, Veronica and Thomas. They shared over 50 years of marriage, until Mildred passed away on July 19, 2003.
After Tony's honorable discharge from the Navy where he learned to be a mechanic, he spent most of his career as a mechanic. He worked in North Dakota, and in 1961, moved to Glencoe because of a job opportunity at the Glencoe Municipal Power Plant. Tony then went to work for Schlauderaff Implement, which today is known as Jungclaus Implement and after injuring his back, he worked at Medallion Kitchens in Waconia, Minnesota.
Tony was a faithful member of Church of St Pius X in Glencoe. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a treasurer for many years and also held the office of Grand Knight. Tony was also a member of the Glencoe American Legion Post #95 for over 50 years.
Tony enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, and could fix anything! He sold honey for many years under the name Drong's Apiary, at one point in his career he had over 60 hives of bees. Tony was always helping others and interested in many things. He was generous with his time and always had time to visit. Tony cherished time spent with his family and friends.
Tony passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at the St Mary's Care Center in Winsted, Minnesota, at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 28 days. Blessed be his memory.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mary Drong; wife, Mildred Drong; Brothers and sisters-in-law, August Meyer, Theresa Friedrich (Lambert), George Meyer Jr, Johana Friedrich (Gene), Francis Voss (Herman), John Meyer, Margelene Meyer, Jerry Van Winkle, and Gerald Brewer.
