Bernard Joseph "Ben" Drong, the older of two sons born to Peter and Julia (Stish) Drong, was born on August 16, 1902 at Browerville, Minnesota. Shortly after the birth of his brother, John, Ben's mother, Julia, passed away. Peter Drong then married Mary Kaloje, and they were parents to seven children, Anna, Peter, Valentine, Sophie, Albina, Frank, and Alex.

The Drongs lived on a farm, located northeast of Browerville, in Ward Township of Todd County. Ben attended rural schools and helped his father with the farm work. As a young man, Ben purchased a farm of his own, located north of Browerville.

Ben Drong and Mary Ann Kilanowski were united in marriage at St Joseph Catholic Church in Browerville on February 5, 1929. Five children were born to them: Anthony Bernard, Mary Elizabeth, Bernice Evelyn, Frances Lillian, and James Theodore.

In 1948, Ben came to North Dakota to work on the Henry Mutschler farm. In 1949, he found employment on the Robert and Charles Dick farms. In June of 1949, Mary and the children moved to Courtenay, residing on the Charles Dick farm, three miles south of town. They lived there until October of 1980 when they moved to Courtenay.

In October of 1978, the children and grandchildren hosted an open house in honor of Ben and Mary's 50th wedding anniversary. The reception was held at St Mary's Catholic Church basement.

Funeral services for Ben Drong, 78, retired Courtenay community farmer, will be Wednesday at 10:30am in St Mary's Catholic Church in Courtenay. Mr Drong died Saturday in Jamestown Hospital.

Rev. Felix Lubas will officiate at the service with interment to be in Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown. Rosary will be Tuesday at 8pm in the Daly-Peterson-Thornby Chapel here.

He had retired from active farming in 1975 and had recently engaged in dismantling old buildings as a hobby. They had moved into Courtenay this fall. He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Courtenay.
