Our beautiful dancer and free spirit died with moonglow on her face and the sun coming up, surrounded by family and friends after a three year courageous and inspirational battle with breast cancer. Her light and spirit will live in all of us who were fortunate to know and love her. Joann is survived by her loving family - husband, Darren; parents, Ray and Marge; brothers, Allan and Loren; sister, Karen; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; and friends from all over the world as travel was one of her passions. Joann was a devoted teacher and high school counselor in the Alameda Unified School District. Her many students will long remember and treasure her wisdom and guidance. In her memory dance scholarships for deserving children will be established. In this way we are honoring a beautiful woman who loved children, insuring that her love of life will continue to shine - she danced her way into all of our hearts. A celebration of Joann's life will be held Sunday, October 9th at 1:00 p.m. at the Berkeley Higashi Honganji Budist Temple, 1524 Oregon Street, Berkeley, CA 94703. Please light a candle in our beautiful Joann's honor and enjoy every moment of life as she did.
