Fraser M. "Babe" Simpson,
HARVEY Fraser M. "Babe" Simpson, age 75, of 231 Kawbawgam Road, Harvey, entered eternal life Monday evening, October 10, 2011, at his home in the loving care of his family and friends. The caregivers of UP Home Health and Hospice provided care and support. A Marquette area resident since 1976, Fraser was born July 10, 1936 in Wyandotte, a son of Fraser Simon and Marie Delores (Trango) Simpson, and was a 1954 graduate of the Flat Rock High School. He enlisted in the US Army. Following his honorable discharge, Fraser returned home where he began, what would become, a long career with Michigan Bell Telephone. He began his employment in Trenton, Michigan, as a lineman and when he retired in Marquette, he held the position of splicer with over 30 years of dedicated service. A passionate outdoorsman, Fraser enjoyed all that nature had to offer. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed spending time at his hunting camp in Munising, and was a member of the 7 Eagle's Club. Snowmobiling became a favorite past time His other interests included a love of traveling and attending many quilt shows throughout the years with his wife, Janice. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his grandchildren. He attended Jack and Renee's sporting events and followed their tennis careers from middle school through their college years. He looked forward to seeing Brandon in his school performances and enjoyed his daily after school visits. In retirement, Fraser served as a transporter for Marquette General Hospital. Fraser was a member of the Hiawathaland Snowmobile Club, having served as president for many years, an honorary member of the Snow Cats, a member of the Flat Rock Elks Lodge, and a member of Jopling Post 44 of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Janice (Batten) Simpson, whom he married May 10, 1957; a daughter, Lori (John) Miller of Marquette; his sons, Doug Simpson of Marquette and Jeff (Mercy) Simpson of Marshfield, WI; three grandchildren, Jack and Renee Miller, and Brandon Simpson; his sisters, Sally Tidwell of Riverview, Sharon (Bob) Tiffin of Houghton Lake, Carol (Jerry) Irvin of Newport, and Nancy (Kenny) Coaker of Gibraltar; brothers, Jim Simpson of Taylor, Garry (Annette) Simpson of Flat Rock, and David Simpson of Tennessee; many nieces and nephews. Fraser was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathryn Evans; and a brother, Tommy Simpson. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Friday, October 14, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 2:00 pm Friday afternoon with Pastor Diann Bowler of the Christ Fellowship Ministry of Germfask officiating. Veteran's honors will be provided by members of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380. A reception will follow at the American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or Parkinson Disease Foundation. Condolences may be expressed online at www.fassbenderfuneralhome.com
