Louis Elvis Mitchell was born April 1, 1917, near Ramsey, Ill., in Hurricane Township. He was the eighth of nine children born to Arthur J. and Minnie Virden Mitchell.
He married Erma Browning in 1942. He died Feb. 9, 1955, at Fayette County Hospital. He was just 37 and had diabetes. He left his wife and one daughter, Linda, who was 11.
He was also survived by four brothers, Ray Walter, Charles, Jess and Arthur, and four sisters, Mary Etta Bartlett, Mildred Wahl, Beatrice Worker, and Belva Weaver.
