Abbie Danielle Adams
Birth: Sep. 30, 2002
Death: Mar. 28, 2009
Marion
Williamson County
Illinois, USA

The daughter of Donald and Jamie (Browning) Adams.
Adored sister of Addisyn.

Passed away at the age of 6.

Abbie, a precious creation of God, has blessed the lives of every spirit that she has touched. She was truly loved since the day of her birth into this world and will continue to be loved through eternity.

Among those special to her heart are her cousins, friends at school, and friends and teachers at church. Abbie simply loved life and the people that surrounded her.

'One-of-a-kind:' Abbie Adams story touching many

Marion, Ill.
Nothing could wipe the ever-present smile from Abbie Adams' face. While awaiting a heart transplant at St. Louis Children's Hospital, the six-year-old continued to beam despite the tests, needles, and hospital environment.

Abbie engaged her family in silly games, giggled at a photo made by school cooks, and often fixed her eyes on a handprint rainbow made by classmates.
"She was definitely special, one-of-a-kind," her mother Jamie Adams said.

Abbie died in late March while awaiting a heart transplant.
"She had six great years. She was never seriously ill and was loved like crazy from the day she was born," said her father Don Adams. "Walking around the halls of the hospital and talking to other parents, you see that a lot of kids don't get six good years. We were fortunate to have and love her while we did."

All the while, Abbie smiled through the pain.
"I'm not sure she ever processed what was going on, but she was comforted that this many people cared about her," Mrs. Adams said.
Mr. Adams labeled the response a "phenomenal outpouring of love."
"We received gift bags with no name," he said. "There's no physical way to thank everybody."

The regional and national flow of support began while the Adams were in St. Louis. With ties to two Williamson County school districts and supporters from around the country, Adams' space at the hospital overflowed with cards and gifts.
They wanted to express to the entire community their heartfelt appreciation.
"You can't put a price-tag on a smile at a time like this," Mr. Adams said.

Nearly a month since Abbie's death, the Adams slowly move forward with life knowing the old "normal" will never return.
"It doesn't entirely seem real yet," Mr. Adams said. "It feels like we've been frozen solid. We thaw a little every day and gain a little feeling back."
Mrs. Adams said the entire experience provided an unexpected answer to prayer.

"My prayer was that she'd use her tenacity to be a fireball for the Lord," she said. "I felt sure she would be amazing for Him. How did I ever know it would be in this way?"

Through the pain, the family in turn reached to hospital staffers who cared for them during their month in St. Louis.
"We told the doctors we had four weeks we wouldn't have had otherwise," Mr. Adams said. "We were given time in our grief to minister to others."

The community also is invited to a benefit concert for the family at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The concert will feature guitarist Phil Keaggy, Aldersgate's praise bands and Third Baptist pastor Scott Kallem.
