The Adel News - April 15, 1970 - MANNIE BARBER DIES IN VIET AMBUSH APRIL 4 - Mannie Alford Barber, serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, was killed April 4 during an ambush. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Kembell-Stern Funeral Home in Albany. A native of Lenox, Barber was the son of Willie W. Barber and Mrs. Nelsie Barber of Lenox. Survivors, In addition to his parents, are: nine brothers, James Barber and William Barber both of Albany, J.D. Barber and James W. Barber both of Plant City, Fla., Howard Barber of Ft. Myers, Fla., Jerry Barber, Daniel Barber, Billy Barber and Gene Barber, all of Lenox and four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Clark and Mrs. Lorene Boyd, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Joyce Barber of Lenox and Mrs. Myrtle Baker of Tifton.
