Funeral Rites Held Monday For Mrs. Vernon

Funeral services were held in the Maeser Ward Chapel Monday for Elnora Allen Vernon, 89, with Bishop Douglas Lawson officiating.

She was born December 21, 1873 in Manti, a daughter of Isaac Morley and Harriet Squire Allen. She married William P. Vernon, November 25, 1891, in the Manti LDS Temple.

Following her marriage Mrs. Vernon lived in Vernal until her husband's death in 1945, when she moved to Salt Lake City and later Orem.

An active member of the LDS Church. Mrs. Vernon was recognized in 1953 by the Salt Lake Temple president for outstanding endowment work.

The opening prayer at the services were given by Robert Vernon and a quartet of Arza Adams, Keith Adams, Barsie Hatch and Danna Dee Smith, sang "Oh My Father."

The prelude and postlude music was played by Margret Roberts.

Speakers were Harmon S. Sowards, John Mangum and Archie Johnson and remarks were mead by Bishop Lawson,

Danna Dee Smith and Keith Adams sang a duet "My Father Knows" and Glade and Elizabeth Sowards sang a duet, "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Eloise Adams.

The closing prayer was offered by Victor Bingham and the dedication of the grave was given by Martin W. Curtis.

Pallbearers, all grandsons of Mrs. Vernon, were Eldon Hurst, Wayne Vernon, Robert Vernon, Jim Vernon, Monty Crofts and Gary Crofts.

Survivors are four sons, W. M. and Orson Vernon, both of Orem; Lavon, Provo and Morris J. Vernon, Vernal and four daughters, Mrs. Howard (Hattie) Hurst, Lapoint; Mrs. Orland (Eva) Roberts and Mrs. Van (Afton) Fullmer, Salt Lake City and Mrs. Harold (Clara) Crofts, Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Surviving also are two half-sisters, Mrs. Ardell Huckford, Baldwin Park, California; Mrs. Hazel Ross, Roosevelt; and two half-brothers, Leon Allen, Salt Lake City and Harold Allen, Las Vegas, Nevada, 30 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren.

Burial was in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery.
