Age 25 y.
Wife of William Goodridge

Vital Records of Danvers, MA [GR 17]
Gravestone Record
Lydia Goodridge was born as Lydia Woodbury on April 1, 1785. She was the daughter of Lydia (1765 - 1845) and Andrew Woodbury (1767-1834) who are buried in the Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton, MA. She had 3 brothers: Andrew Woodbury (1804 - 1879), Tristram Woodbury (1796 - 1865) and Daniel Woodbury (1788 - 1819. And she had 2 sisters: Sarah Woodbury (1792- ) and Thirza Woodbury (1800 - 1855).

Lydia married on January 7, 1810 to William Goodridge in Beverly, MA and is recorded in the towns vital records. A short 4 months later she died on May 19, 1810 in Danvers, MA and is recorded in the towns vital records.

Her gravestone is heavily damaged. Not even her name remains on it. Only that of her husband Mr. William. One could hardly guess it is her, and not Mr. William who lies under this stone. It is located in an open field, all alone, with no other stones in it, immediately adjacent to Surrey Lane in Danvers, MA. 50 years ago her name could be read on the stone, but even then it was heavily damaged. I can't express what sadness I feel suspecting it was vandals who damaged the stone and knowing this poor woman lies without a proper marker. This has affected me my entire life since I live nearby. The stone is beyond repair, but an in ground marker should be laid, perhaps by you, to memorialize her.

In an article published in the Danvers Herald of July 28, 2016 significant further information is provided in that article which is not repeated here. I located the owner of this private property and his exact address and he indicated to the Herald that he has saved many of the stone fragments. His family has owned the property since the 1920's and was told that the Goodridges's were tenant farmers on this land. Richard Trask the town historian added further evidence to support this. In addition the owner believes Lydia Goodridge may have died in child birth. There is nothing in the vital records that has recorded her cause of death. Her grave is recorded as GR 17, i.e grave record 17.
