Miller Jr., Burton Hugh MARYLAND/ SAN DIEGO -- Burton Hugh Miller, Jr., 79, of Mechanicsville, MD and formerly of Edgemere, MD passed away on October 16, 2013 at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. He was born on March 24, 1934 in Mt. Holly, MD to the late Burton Hugh Miller (Sr.) and the late Anna Mae (Kuhn) Miller. Burton served in the military for the U.S. Navy joining in 1953 as a Seaman recruit and serving until his retirement in 1977 as a Lieutenant Commander. He received recognition by earning the Air Medal (2), Good Conduct Medal (3), Meritorious Unit Commendation (2), Joint Service Commendation Metal, National Defense Service Medal (W/Star), Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his military service, he joined CUBIC Corporation where he worked as a project manager at the Chesapeake Test Range until his full retirement in 2008. He enjoyed antique shopping and collecting old pocket watches and accessories, walking sticks, canes, and ball caps. In addition to his parents, Burton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Marie Miller (1995); his daughter, Lisa M. Miller; one of his sons, Burton Hugh Miller, III; and his sister, Lavinia J. Miller. He is survived by his son, Paul K. Miller; brother, Henry C. Miller; and two grandchildren, Alinza and Joanna Miller. His extended family included Brenda and Kevin Meemken, Melinda and Marcellus Wiggins and their children, Devin and Aliya. Arrangements are being handled by Brinsfield- Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: Maryland Cancer Fund Comptroller of Maryland Revenue Administration Center, Taxpayer Service Section, Annapolis, Maryland 21411.
