Another old settler has answered the final summons and gone across the river. On December 29, 1898, John R. Adams, closed his weary eyes upon the scenes of earth after many months of pain and weakness.

When a boy of twelve, he moved with his parents to Ohio and setttled in Knox County, where he grew to manhood.
On the 5th of April, 1860 he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Miksch of New Phidelphia, Ohio, which union was blessed with three sons and two daughters. Ilo W. the eldest son is a wealthy, influential attorney-at-law on the Pacific; Rankin the second son, is well known to most in Nora Springs and is an extensive stock raiser, dealer and farmer a few miles NE of town; Asa, the third son, is a rising attorney-at-law and all around shrewd businessman who has for several years made his home in Mason City, but also has an interest in the lumberyard in Nora Springs; the eldest daughter is the wife of Dr. W.J. Heflin; while the youngest daughter resides at Stacyville and is the wife of Frank Gardner of that city.
Mr. Adams has grown wealthy by hard work and being of careful management, owning more that 3,000 acres at the time of his death.
The funeral occured at the family residence on the 30th, services conducted by Rev. T.H. Scheckler, and interment was in Park Cemetery.
