Charles "Chucky" Whitaker, one of two Dallas firefighters gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Peoria following the Super Bowl, died two days later in a Valley hospital.
His death was confirmed by Mike Tellef, a Peoria police spokesman, who said Whitaker, 38, was pronounced dead about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday after being taken off life support.
Whitaker, a 14-year veteran of the Dallas agency, and a fellow firefighter were shot from a passing vehicle about 1:50 a.m. Monday while both men were walking to their Peoria hotel near 84th Avenue and Bell Road from a nearby nightclub.
Whitaker was rushed to a hospital with wounds to the leg, chest and head.
The friend, Reginald Cuington, 43, a lieutenant with the Dallas agency and a 17-year veteran, was wounded in the leg and walked to the hotel seeking medical assistance.
